One of my favorite characters in Lish McBride’s hilariously thrilling series is Brid, described in the book’s summary as main character Sam’s “capricious werewolf sort-of girlfriend.” Brid is kick-ass and awesome, and I’m lucky enough to be hosting her on my blog today!

About Necromancing the Stone: With the defeat of the evil Douglas behind him, Sam LaCroix is getting used to his new life. Okay, so he hadn’t exactly planned on being a powerful necromancer with a seat on the local magical council and a capricious werewolf sort-of-girlfriend, but things are going fine, right?
Well . . . not really. He’s pretty tired of getting beat up by everyone and their mother, for one thing, and he can’t help but feel that his new house hates him. His best friend is a werebear, someone is threatening his sister, and while Sam realizes that he himself has a lot of power at his fingertips, he’s not exactly sure how to use it. Which, he has to admit, is a bit disconcerting.
But when everything starts falling apart, he decides it’s time to step up and take control. His attempts to do so just bring up more questions, though, the most important of which is more than a little alarming: Is Douglas really dead?

Jen: Do you feel a lot of pressure as your pack’s tainaste– their future leader?
Brid: Well, let’s see. I have a bunch of people watching every little thing I do and judging it. They pay attention to the people I talk to, who I date, what I say. When I’m not going to school and doing homework, I’m at the Den training with my family and learning the ropes from my Dad. If a guy hits on me, I have to wonder if it’s because he likes me or because I might be the leader someday. Oh, and if I do takeover for my dad, I will also have other weres trying to kill me to take over my spot. So, no, no pressure at all. It’s a cakewalk.
Jen: What’s your favorite childhood memory?
Brid: I’m lucky that I have so many. My family is amazing. The time we were running in wolf-form and Sean stuck his nose in a bee’s nest is one of my favorite’s, though. He kept trying to bite them out of the air. I’m pretty sure he accidentally sucked one into his nostrils. I’ve never laughed so hard.
Jen: Who do you consider yourself closest with in your pack?
Brid: I love all my brothers, but probably Sean. We spend the most time together and Sean is just so good at cheering me up. The twins sort of have their own thing going, and Bran is so busy. Sean has the time for me. Of course that’s because he’s also the least responsible out of all of us.
Jen: What’s your least favorite scent that ordinary humans probably wouldn’t think twice about?
Brid: Well, Axe body spray makes me want to vomit, but then I think it has that effect on most girls. Mostly it’s just the combination of things that I find so problematic. Like when I go to a friend’s house and they have fifteen different cleaning sprays, deodorizers, incense and so on and it all clashes together and I want to sneeze. I wish they would just open a few windows and air things out instead of smothering their houses in chemicals.
Jen: In the great wide world of magical creatures, and excepting werewolves, who are you the most comfortable around? The least?
Brid: Until Sam came around, I would have said necromancers made me the most uncomfortable. Of course Douglas was really my only example and he was sort of worst-case scenario. I like earth witches, because most of them are nice. And I would love to get a brownie for my dorm room. All you have to do is leave a little milk out, and it cleans your room! Who wouldn’t want that?
Jen: Besides the obvious (*cough* cage *cough cough*), what drew you to Sam?
Brid: Sam…is easy. (NOT like that, sickos.) I mean he’s easy going. Sweet. There’s no power games or plots—he’s just Sam. I don’t have to worry about whether or not he likes me for me, or if he’s just making a political move. He’s funny. Plus I like the way he smells. He does not douse himself in cologne or body spray like so many of his peer group.
