Remember those New Year’s resolutions I posted yesterday? Remember how one of them was to write at least once a week?
THAT IS NOT A NEW GOAL.
But it’s one that I struggle to follow through with every year despite the fact that my dreams of being an author kind of hinge upon it.
I’ve wanted to do this since… approximately forever. Below is one of the first “stories” I ever wrote, at the tender age of six (or so).
But despite that, despite the pages of stories I’ve written, the bookshelves that I pass every day that make me wish to see my own story there, and despite the Creative Writing degree that I spent four years getting, life still gets in the way, as I’m sure many of you know. There’s the job search, the fitness thing, work and interning, the attempts at a social life, and as much as I absolutely love book-blogging, it consumes a good chunk of my time.
But thank goodness for Angel of Mermaid Vision Books and Christa of Hooked on Books, who are both pitching their tents next to mine for Camp Wordsmith!
The goals here are simple. We want to write, so we’re making a public effort before all of our followers and readers to do so. Each Saturday for the next 50 weeks, we’ll talk about how we’ve done over the past week, with word counts, plot advancements, and struggles or issues to do with craft.
By the end of the year, I hope to have a workable first draft at the very least.
Join us next Saturday! I’m pretty sure this is going to be the best camping experience I’ll ever have.
