I’m thrilled to debut a new feature on Almost Grown-up called ‘Would You Rather YA Wednesday!’
Basically on Wednesdays, I’ll pose a ‘Would You Rather’ question related to YA lit that I’ve either thought of myself or had presented to me by someone else.

This week’s question, posed to me at BEA by Lindsey of A Storm of Words and Steph of Poetry to Prose:
If one of the series pulled a Twilight and ended in one of the main characters getting PREGNANT… WOULD YOU RATHER it be Veronica Roth’s Tris of the Divergent Series or Lauren Oliver’s Lena of the Delirium series?
First off, let me just say this: PLEASE DON’T KNOCK EITHER OF THEM UP. I prefer my main characters to be adults before they procreate.
But. If I had to choose? Lena.
Because when compared with Tris, I think Lena would be a whole lot more maternal and one of the themes of the Delirium series is love… in all its forms. I can imagine her as a mother– SOMEDAY. Plus she is a little older than Tris.
But when I think of Tris with a baby I imagine her holding it out at arms-length from her, with a terrified expression on her face and asking “What am I supposed to do with this?”
Plus. I feel like you can’t have a baby in Dauntless.
But I will have more thoughts on Dauntless babies in the near future.

OMG JENNIFER.
After all of our dauntless baby discussions, I ~almost~ (but not really) want Tris to be with child so we can find out what goes down with babies in dauntless. However, I am opposed to babies in all of my YA reads so, ugh…my vote would have to go with to Lena, too, if I had to choose. Because she’s the older one, ha!
Don’t worry, Stephanie. I’m totally writing a Tris with child fanfic for all of you. HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAYS.

I haven’t read Delirium, but all I know is NOT TRIS. While the idea of Dauntless babies intrigues me, I think as she is right now Tris would make a horrible mother!
Ha! I definitely don’t want EITHER of them to have babies… but yes, basically if I had to CHOOSE… “NOT TRIS” indeed.
I say Lena…but with Alex or Julian..now that’s another hard question lol.
I would like to say Lena (and I agree she’s definitely the more maternal of the two), and maybe after the third book I would say that, but I think as things currently stand in my mind (having read Divergent and Delirium and Pandemonium), I feel that relationship wise Tris is in a better place. That said, I don’t feel like either world is really a good place for a baby to be born…
