Camp Wordsmith is a weekly venture in which Angel of Mermaid Vision Books, Christa of Hooked on Books, and I post about our work in writing over the past week. We’ll also discuss various issues to do with craft. The goals here are simple. We want to write, so we’re making a public effort before all of our followers and readers to do so. And by the end? We hope to make it a little closer to our dreams of being published.
Week 15
Stage: First draft and planning
Week’s Word Count: 2100
Total Word Count: 30500
Woo! I didn’t hit 3000 this week, but I have more progress to report for Camp Wordsmith than I have in a while! And I broke 30,000!
…I’m trying to focus on the small victories here.
I’ve still got a ways to go. My story took a sharp turn this week that I had anticipated coming later– I’m adding pacing to one of the things I want to examine closely when I’m working on a second draft. But it’s finally moving again! Hurrah!
I’d like to have my first draft completed by BEA, so I’ve still got a ways to go. 50,000 words, while a good NaNoWriMo length, isn’t going to cut it for a finished Camp Wordsmith product for me (fantasy novels aren’t typically that short), but we’ll see how long this winds up.
I hope to see you all next week with more progress made!
Be sure to check Christa and Angel’s Camp Wordsmith progress this week as well!
